Please join us in welcoming Mr. Chris Shumick as the new Director of Bands at Milton High School! Mr. Shumick will join our band family officially for the 2012-2013 school year.
Mr. Shumick has served for the past five years as the Director of Bands at Woodland High School in Henry County, Georgia, where he also was chairman of the Fine Arts Department. Before serving as Woodland’s inaugural band director, he taught for three years at Jonesboro High School in Clayton County, Georgia. Originally from Alliance, Ohio, he holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Bowling Green State University (2004), and both Master’s and Education Specialist’s degrees from the University of Georgia (2007, 2009).
Under his direction, the bands of Woodland High School have received consistent superior ratings at GMEA concert and marching band events. Recently, the Woodland Wind Symphony performed at the 62nd Annual University of Georgia January Band Festival, the 2nd annual Georgia State University Honor Bands of Distinction Clinic, and last year’s University of Alabama Honor Band Festival. He is actively involved in instrumental music education throughout Georgia, frequently serving as an adjudicator and clinician for marching and concert band events and is a staff member for the Georgia Ambassadors of Music.
Mr. Shumick is a three-time recipient of the National Band Association Citation of Excellence, and his professional affiliations include membership in Phi Mu Alpha, the National Association for Music Education, Georgia Music Educators Association, and the National Band Association. A former member of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps from Canton, Ohio, Mr. Shumick currently performs in the brass section of the Cobb Wind Symphony, one of the Southeast's premier community bands, based in Marietta, Georgia.
